An introduction to Bulls vs Bears
A Collection of Blockchain Personalities
We are excited to introduce our passion project, Bulls vs Bears. Today we welcome you to join the epic journey of creation.
How we got here
We set out to create a personable collection that anyone could identify with. Algorithmic tools simplify tasks and empower creative minds. However we can’t help but feel something is lacking, something that is both authentic and hopeful.
We searched far and wide for the perfect artist. When we finally discovered Yanyan, who creates with canvas and oil paint, we fell hopelessly in love with the absurdly genuine and playful energy in his art. We were instantly inspired to create a series of characters, and almost decided to keep the entire collection to ourselves. However we felt it wouldn’t do the art justice if we kept it hidden away.
Bulls Vs Bears is a way for us to share our journey. The physical collection is created for our personal enjoyment. For each handmade piece of art we add to our vault, we digitize and mint its corresponding NFT, which will remain 1-of-1 unless otherwise stated.
The Collection
We are currently collaborating with Yanyan, our Genesis artist.
To us, this is a passion project that will span over decades. We would love to see at least 10 seasons, at 1,500 pieces per season.
We want this collection to remain accessible. To start most NFTs will be priced at 0.04 ETH, which may be adjusted if needed. Some low ID or special characters will be listed for more, or sold at auction.
Before the end of each season, there will be an unspecified number of implicit properties, and 4 explicit properties: Artist, Character, Dimensions, and Medium. Implicit properties will be explained in a future post.
Traits & Rarity
Each piece will be reviewed at the end of a season, and implicit traits will be identified and documented by hand. Afterwards, the NFTs will be migrateable to a new contract, which will include all traits in the NFT metadata. This is when trait rarity will be known.
Out of the total population, Bulls will represent approximately 7.5%, Bears 7.5%, and BullBears 6.5%. Other character types will be revealed later.
Genesis Artist
Our first impression of Yanyan was his sincere optimism. Born into a family of farmers, Yanyan is influenced by Asian philosophy and draws inspiration from his childhood in rural Chinese countryside. He has been drawing and sculpting since he could barely hold a paint brush, and when he isn’t working in the fields with his father, most of his time is spent on his creations.
He has neither any formal art education nor the luxury of digital tools. Completely self-taught, all Yanyan ever really had was the sun above his head and the soil below his feet. His journey has not been an easy one, but nothing could come between him and his art.
What about the physical art?
We have a variety of plans for the physical pieces. We are considering permanent or pop up galleries, and maybe eventual distribution. Creating, digitizing, and storing the art is a large undertaking. We won’t commit to a timeline just yet, but will keep the art safe until the infrastructure is ready.
